Dana Schutz

One of the most significant figurative artists of our time, American artist Dana Schutz renders subjects central to contemporary concerns in their reflection of peripatetic beings or twisted characters in surreal scenes all while using satire and humor to provoke questions. Schutz presents nearly twenty-five years of practice, where she nimbly unveils the contrarian conditions of the world, while speaking to timely issues such as justice, history, public space, and freedom within the context of the individual and the collective realms.

Texts by Courtney J. Martin, Paul Mellon Director of the Yale Center for British Art, along with Bice Curiger, Artistic Director of the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh Arles, and artist Andy Robert.
